Street scenes of Cartagena, Colombia

I have been asked about Cartagena, mostly along the lines of:

1) Isn't it a long distance?
2) Isn't it dangerous?

The answers are: No and No. There is a direct flight from Miami, under three hours, about the same as for Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands, with a modern airport two miles from the old walled city. Old Cartagena, where we were, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, largely undisturbed for 400 years, one of the best preserved Spanish colonial sites. Many tourists to be sure, mostly from Central and South America, some from the USA, a few from Europe, none from Asia. Police and private security all over the place.
