Good afternoon,

You guys are gonna cringe when you see my name appear on a post. First, Joan, that is a beautiful site. It is ceratinly worth a visit, probably more than once. Second, I was planning to write to Carolyn to suggest a site I have found also. It is: http://www.beatrixandpeter.com/list-of-characters The only thing I have against this site is that when one clicks on the character name, it links to a list of items for sale on eBay. This is certainly a convoluted sentence.)It is easy to recognize the character, but I don't need that kind of temptation. Third, I had thought it wpuld be difficult to find these little character bells here in north Texas--wrong. I am now up to 23 different bells! When I look at the list of characters, I have visions (nightmares?) of this collection becoming a life's work.

Still happily hunting,
sam

Hi,
I think you have all the info that was on my "tag" about the Beatrix Potter Bells. One thing I thought you might like to know is that I paid $16.25 (plus postage and shipping) for each bell! So far, I think you have
a good deal! I think they are cute. I gave one away to a little girl so I don't have the whole set, but I have
enough. Enjoy them!

Greetings Lonewolf,

I look at my Beatrix Potter bells every day and rue the fact that I don't yet have a complete set. Worse than that: I'm not sure what to look for to get a full set. I have been under the impression that there are 24 bells, but I'm not altogether certain that is correct. Recently, on ebay, I saw a set of "24 plus one". I looked at each bell as well as I could, and realized that there were two I did not have, and I have 23. One thing that complicates the issue is that the New England Society apparently also put out some "Mother's Day Bells" that also embodied some Beatrix Potter firgres ????? Then one has to decide which bells are to be included in what set and if the sets are mutually exclusive.

As far as identifying the bells pictured above, I am not too sure I agree with the one labeled Tommy Brock. I think that one may be Timmy Willie. Otherwise, I agree with all. Some of the sites that were available several years ago, when I was really involved in trying to put together this set with appropriate names, seem to be no longer available. One site I have found lately that has fairly good pictures is http://www.sewforless.com. This is an embroidery site, so you will have to search a little for the Beatrix Potter images, but it is probably worth the effort.

So, how many bells do you have?? I really hope you have 24-25. I may just give up if you have 30.

Later,
sam

I have the complete set! My husband bought the "subscription" for me to receive them, one per month, back in December of 1989. The first bell was a very adult & distinguished looking Peter Rabbit carrying a basket of holly (this"Christmas" bell began my set). Unfortunately, I am missing ONE bell IF the sellers on eBay are correct that there are 24 + 1 bells. I did NOT receive another bell commemorating a holiday.

Now, if the cat shown in the first post is indeed Mrs. Ribby, then I have another cat that I THOUGHT was Mrs. Ribby. I will post individual pictures of my entire set if that would help anyone. Just post & let me know.

I thought this list might help some still looking for the bells. The bells that I have are:

*Peter Rabbit at Christmas
*Peter Rabbit
*Little Benjamin Bunny
*Old Mr. Benjamin Bunny
*Mrs. Rabbit
*Mrs. Ribby
*Mrs. Ribby (I really don't think they would have issued TWO Mrs. Ribby's though, so I'm really wanting to identify this other cat.)
*Tom Kitten
*Miss Moppet
*Squirrel Nutkin
*Timmy Tiptoes
*The Tailor of Gloucester
*Appley Dapply
*Mrs. Tittlemouse
*Timmy Willie
*Hunca Munca
*Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle
*Duchess
*Jemima Puddleduck
*Mr. Jeremy Fisher
*Little Pig Robinson
*Piggly Bland
*Amiable Guinea Pig

Greetings War Eagle Fan!!
I would LOVE :D it if you could post a picture or two. I don't have anything that resembles a Christmas bell, so I would like to see your Peter Rabbit at Christmas. Two of the others are not familiar to me either: Mrs. Ribby, the one you are in doubt about (I do seem to recall having seen a cat in a rocking chair, but it was listed as a Mother's Day bell), and Little Pig Robinson. It has been really hard to put together a collection without a reference as to how many are really in the collection. It would help also if there were a master list. I may have to get back to researching this little group of bells. I had been relatively successful in the past, but I haven't worked on it for a year or so. I am really glad to know there is someone else out there interested in these little bells.

I am new to this so please excuse me. I've been browsing through the various entries regarding the Beatrix Potter Bell collection. I received this as a gifts years back. The entire set includes 24 bells (the Christmas Bell is not part of the set). I have the entire set...along with the display case(something that came with the subscription to the entire collection). It was titled "The First Beatrix Potter Silverplated Bell Collection" put out by The New England Collectors Society. Here is the list of bells in the order they were produced:
Peter Rabbit - #01A
Jemima Puddle-Duck - #02B
Tailor of Gloucester - #03C
Hunca Munca - #04D
Benjamin Bunny - #05E
Mrs. Ribby - #06F
Tom Kitten - #07G
Mrs. Rabbit - #08H
Pigling Bland - #09I
Squirrel Nutkin - #10J
Timmy Willie - #11K
Amiable Guinew Pig - #12L
Timmy Tiptoes - #13M
Pig Robinson - #14N
Old Mr. Bunny - #15O
Tabatha Twitchit - #16P
Miss Moppet - #17Q
Jeremy Fisher - $18R
Mrs. Tittlemouse - #19S
Mrs. Tiggy Winkle - #20T
Appley Dapply - #21U
Duchess - #22V
Johnny Townmouse - #23W
Goody Tiptoes - #24x

I was actually trying to find information as to where I could list to sell this collection. I would love any and all advice that I can get. Mine are all still in the original wrapping that they came in with the original box the display case was shipped in...I don't think they have ever seen the light of day. A gift my mother got for me...just never appreciated them I guess. And now here we are, 20 years later :D

Thank you!!!

Yes there was 2 extra bells outside of the two sets of twelve, the Christmas Peter Rabbit,(which I do not have), and a Mothers Day one that has a seated Mrs. Rabbit with two children on her lap, I assume Peter and a sibling, (which I do have). I thought I had the complete 24 piece Beatrix Potter set, because when I got them from my mother, thats what she told me. I started going through them a few days ago because I came across them in the attic and got a renewed intrest in them. After the first set of twelve, and the Mothers Day one, they did not look like any in the series, but instead, they were a set of twelve Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme bells. They are made by the Barton & Reed corp. for the New England Collectors Society, they all have the same little tags for each one with identifing marks, the bells all have the NE stamped on them, they range from Mother Goose, Queen of Hearts, Little Boy Blue, Cat and the Fiddle, Humpty Dumpty, Ole King Cole, Jack and Jill, Mouse and Clock, Mary had a little Lamb, Jack Sprat, Little Bo Peep, and Mary Mary quite Contrary. I have tried to find any information on these bells and can find none. I assume they must be from around the time of the others, but very rare. If anyone has any information on these please let me know, or if you have an intrest in them, let me know also. Thank You. L.S.
