If you are up on central Ohio news you heard about the Humanitarian, David Bompart. 3 years ago, after the Haiti earthquake, David and his wife went to Haiti to aid the people of Haiti. David once lived in The Dominican Republic which is next door to Haiti (same island), and spoke the language. He did translations for English speaking care workers. Him and his wife Nicole eventually became active in the aid to orphans and widows. Nicole soon came back to the United States and started a non profit organization named EYES WIDE OPEN which sole purpose was to generate donations to help orphaned children and widows of the Haiti earthquake disaster. They are(were) in the process of adopting a young lad named Mack, who is a good friend of my son Nicholas. Mack had lost everybody in his family. They were in the middle of building a new orphanage for the 66 remaining children who had lost everybody when last week, after David left a bank in the city with funds for supplies and food for the orphanage, he was gunned down. He was critical, and had to be medical air bus flown to the United States. They were coming to Columbus, Ohio but had to detour to Miami due to complications. Well, one week went by, and David went home to be with his creator yesterday due to organ shutdown and infection. Well to make a very sad, long story short. When Nicole arrives back to Columbus and after all the funeral business is over, I"m going to ask her if she would like to have my bell to send to the orphanage in Haiti in Davids memory. I of course plan on restoring the bell before moving on with my idea. I wondered what I was going to do with my bell. Now I know.
